FW: ( S.A. ) Uniting SA : How our Appeal helps: Words from a frontline worker

Dear Friends of UnitingSA,
With Christmas only a few weeks away, I wanted to thank you for your support of our appeal so far. We have been astounded by the generosity of the community, who share our vision to give all South Australians a reason to smile this Christmas.
Today I wanted to share some powerful words from one of our frontline workers, who knows better than most the impact of our Christmas Appeal.
These workers see firsthand the relief on people’s faces when they receive a grocery voucher, or their joy when they walk into our Toy Room to select gifts for their children.
Our Financial Wellbeing Coordinator, Cindy Adey, has been part of our Christmas Appeal team for almost a decade and says there is no greater feeling than being able to help people when they need it most.

HELP CINDY’S TEAM MAKE WISHES COME TRUE

“Christmas should be a time of celebration but we know that for so many people who come through our doors, it’s the opposite,” Cindy says.
“They come to us worried about how they will put food on the table, they feel guilt that they can’t afford to buy their children toys.
“It’s so hard to see people struggling at what is supposed to be a happy time of year, but knowing that through our Appeal we can relieve that stress is incredible.”
Cindy says the people seeking support are diverse, including families experiencing financial hardship, parents and children who have fled domestic violence, people living with a mental illness, those living on disability allowances, and people experiencing homelessness.
“No two people’s circumstances are alike but what they do have in common is a need for support and a genuine, caring response,” she says.
“That’s what our Christmas Appeal is all about – harnessing the collective goodwill of people in our community to make a positive difference in the lives of those who need it most.”

Cindy’s perspective conveys the incredible impact of this Appeal and I truly hope you consider helping our team to ease the financial burden of many local families doing it tough this Christmas.
Thank you again for your generosity and compassion for others, and I wish you and your loved ones a joyful Christmas.
Yours sincerely,
Jenny Hall

How your donation helps:

  • Provides grocery vouchers to over 400 families or individuals experiencing financial hardship, so that they may purchase food basics and enjoy a meal on Christmas day.
  • Ensures a gift is under the tree for children who would otherwise miss out.
  • Purchases food supplies to host a Christmas day lunch for vulnerable and isolated members of our community who do not have loved ones, or the means to celebrate.

Your gift – no matter how big or small – will brighten someone’s Christmas and remind them there are people in our community who care and expect nothing in return.
