Location: Sonder Kadina, Maitland, Nuriootpa or Port Pirie (negotiable depending on applicants location)
Hours: 1FTE
The Indigenous Health Project Officer (IHPO) has a leadership role providing regional guidance within its region.
The IHPO will ensure there is a focus on Aboriginal health and aim to improve the integration of care across the Yorke Peninsula, Mid-North and Gawler/Barossa region. The role supports mainstream practices and primary health providers to be culturally safe and better engaging with Aboriginal people to access appropriate primary health care for all their health and wellbeing needs.
Reporting directly to the Aboriginal Health Manager, your responsibilities will be:
- Developing and implementing a coordinated team-based approach to Aboriginal health, especially between the IHPO, Outreach Workers and Care Coordinator positions
- Developing and mapping referral pathways that incorporate available services at the local, regional and jurisdictional level
- Developing and implementing strategies to improve access to mainstream primary care for Aboriginal people
- Collaborating with local Aboriginal health service and mainstream health services in a partnership approach for the improved delivery of primary care services
Experience requirements:
- Demonstrated experience working within a fast-paced environment.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and consultative skills reflected in an ability to engage and collaborate with, a wide range of service providers and community members
- Appropriate level of experience in primary health care delivery
Qualification requirements:
- Knowledge and experience in using the Microsoft suite of software and databases.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in health such as Nursing, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Allied Health Practitioners, health promotion, Primary Health, community development, Aboriginal studies or combination of relevant training and experience deemed to be appropriate.
