headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds. headspace has 108 centres across Australia in metropolitan, regional and remote areas, as well as online and phone support services through eheadspace.
Sonder is the lead agency for headspace Adelaide, Edinburgh North, Marion and Onkapringa.

Learn about the position:
Location: Support for all headspace sites (Marion, Onkaparinga, Edinburgh North and Adelaide)
Hour: 0.1fte (equivalent to 1 day per fortnight)
The Cultural Advisor will provide support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peer Workers within Sonder’s Youth Services.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Peer Support Workers utilise their personal experience of issues with mental health to provide culturally-safe support to young people at risk of, or experiencing mental health conditions with the headspace Centres and their families/carers.
Reporting directly to the Youth Services Clinical Manager, your responsibilities will be:
- Appropriately and purposefully utilise own knowledge and experience to support and culturally mentor the Peer Support Worker roles across Sonder’s Youth Services.
- Utilise self-disclosure in a safe and meaningful way and is mindful of the potential for adverse effects from self-disclosure if used inappropriately.
- Work collaboratively with headspace peer workers and the multidisciplinary headspace team to provide peer specific, cultural support and mentoring
- Provide advice to headspace Centre where required on matters relating to Cultural Competency and opportunities for improvement

Experience requirements:
- Demonstrated experience working within a fast-paced environment;
- Personal experience of being a consumer accessing mental health services
Qualification requirements:
- Knowledge and experience in using the Microsoft suite of software and databases
- Certificate IV in Mental Health / Peer Work or equivalent
