A person’s housing situation can influence everything from life quality to life expectancy. Tragically, First Nations Australians are vastly overrepresented in homelessness and those seeking assistance with housing. One third of Indigenous households have at least one major structural problem, 10% are overcrowded, while 22% of the nation’s homeless are Indigenous.
The Indigenous Housing and Homelessness Forum (24-26 May, Sydney) is the nation’s largest independent event bring together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander housing providers, NFPs, government bodies, and health organisations, to brainstorm solutions to the current Indigenous housing crisis.
Featured on the program are leading voices in the Indigenous housing space, such as:
· Lisa Sampson, Interim CEO, Aboriginal Community Housing Industry Association (ACHIA)
· Paul Coe, CEO, NSWALC Housing Limited
· Suzanne Naden, CEO, Bungree Aboriginal Association
· Tina Pickett, Managing Director, Noongar Mia Mia
· Stephen Woodlands, Founder and Managing Director, Head Start Homes
· Glenn Pellegrin, APRAP Statewide Coordinator, Aboriginal Housing Victoria
