· Help steer the rehabilitation of Brisbane’s natural areas
· Provide support and coordinate the work for our bush-care volunteer groups
· Assist with education in the field and through our community seminars
About Habitat Brisbane
This program helps community groups restore natural habitats in parks, remnant bushland, wetlands and along waterways. They also help to protect, monitor, and increase native flora and fauna populations, especially rare and threatened species.
Habitat Brisbane draw the community together and play an intrinsic role in removing weeds and rubbish, reducing illegal dumping via community awareness and education, re-establishing native bushlands, and improving attractiveness of the local area.
As outlined in the Brisbane Vision 2031, 40% of mainland Brisbane will be natural habitat.
Our dedicated officers assist with the running of the groups, provide advice on the environmental works required at the sites, and then prioritise and co-ordinate the type of work needed including help to educate.
This role
As a key contributor to the Habitat Brisbane Bush Care Program, you will work in partnership with this dedicated and passionate team focusing on community rehabilitation, onsite training on plants, herbicide treatments and overseeing workplace health and safety for our volunteers.
This role will require some work outside of normal business hours.
To be successful in the position you will have horticulture, land conversation and parks management knowledge as well as an outstanding customer service focus to contribute to citywide events.
You will be supporting technical seminars, program events and assisting the supply of knowledge and services during working bees within the bushland environment. You will be outcome focused, supportive of change and can form strong relationships at all levels.
Key priorities include:
· effective communication with key stakeholders, community groups and volunteers
· co-ordination of rehabilitation and maintenance work in publicly owned natural areas
· provision of technical advice and training on bushland rehabilitation and management matters
· preparing field reports, files, and varied correspondence with proven ability to act on complaints and work requests
· audit tools and maintenance of equipment.
To be successful you will have:
· well-developed communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder relationship skills
· strong coordination and time management skills to prioritise workloads to meet demands and deadlines
· demonstrated knowledge of the use of and maintenance of tools, minor plant and equipment, and personal protective equipment to meet required workplace health and safety standards.
· sound written communication and report writing skills
· demonstrated ability to work well within a team.
Horticulture, land conversation and parks management knowledge will be highly regarded, including any relevant certificates or tertiary qualifications.
