ENVIRONMENT CENTRE EDUCATION OFFICER
Brisbane has three Environment Centres at Boondall Wetlands, Downfall Creek and Karawatha Forest. Brisbane’s Environment Centres are responsible for creating sustainable communities through the provision of various environmental programs and services. As part of their programming, the centres develop and deliver fun-filled and educational school engagement programs at various locations in Brisbane.
The environment centres now have a Temporary Full Time Education Officer position available. This role offers a great opportunity for those who enjoy working both indoors and outdoors, thrive in being part of a great team, and possess a real passion for environmental conservation.
This role offers you the chance to interact with and educate students about the natural environment by developing and delivering a diverse range of environmental learning activities.
Your key responsibilities will include:
· developing and delivering the centres environmental school learning programs city-wide.
· consulting and communicating with the school community, principals, teachers, and environmental education bodies to improve programs, promote offerings and meet customer needs
· consultation and supporting collaboration between community groups and individuals to strengthen relations and support networks within local communities
· communicating Council’s key environmental message and providing technical advice
· leading and role modelling customer focussed behaviour
· mentoring other staff, delegating tasks, and working in partnership with your team.
Suitable candidates will have:
· a Driver’s License is essential as this role would be expected to service all 3 centres
· experience in the development, delivery, monitoring and review of environmental learning programs to school groups and the community
· experience in implementing the principles of environmental learning in education programs
· success in fostering effective community partnerships to achieve defined program objectives
· excellent time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritise high volume workloads
· strong customer service and interpersonal skills, including a commitment to working in a highly effective team.
Experience in supervising and developing staff and volunteers is desirable. This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to Council’s vision for a Clean and Green City through meaningful engagement with the Brisbane community.
