Subject: Indigenous Mental Health Survey: Help Us Raise Awareness!

Hello,

My name is Kristie, I am a Wiradjuri woman and I am part of the Staying Deadly research team (at the Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research). We are currently conducting a mental health survey in the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

We are looking to recruit Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander members of the community over the age of 18 who live in South East Queensland to participate in a mental health survey. There are no other restrictions on who can participate, we want to recruit people from all walks of life, with or without mental illness.

How you can help:

We ask for your organisations’ support to help us raise awareness of the survey by displaying Staying Deadly promotional materials such as flyers, posters, or Staying Deadly shirts at reception, noticeboard, or where other community notices are located. Any support you can provide in this manner would be very much appreciated in order for us to reach the numbers of participants required for a representative sample of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Details of the Survey:

The Staying Deadly Survey is a mental health survey that is helping to determine how many Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are living with mental disorders, what mental health services they use, and the barriers to accessing care. Although there have been two national studies on mental health, none of these have looked specifically at Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander mental health. This is the first time this kind of research has been done with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people living in an urban community in South East Queensland.

Contact details for our project staff are clearly printed on all promotional materials so that prospective participants can contact our team directly for more information. We expect to be actively recruiting from February to August 2022.

If you are able to support our endeavours please let me know and we would be happy to drop in the promotional material for you to display.
