“Star Dreaming” a collaboration of stories written by two Gomeroi women, Jodie Herden and Mel Armstrong, cousins whose Grandmothers were sisters and separated by the stolen generations. Also illustrated by Gomeroi artist Jodie Herden.
Looking at connection to country/family/community and the universe.
Star Dreaming has two stories titled –
“Twinkle Twinkle little Mirii” Jodie Herden
–
which follows
the story of little Mirii, a young girl who is off country and connects back to her culture, through the stars.
The second story is called “To Fly through the Stars” Mel Armstrong
-follows cousins who connect out on country and universe.
Mels story came from many heart opening moments of reconnecting with my culture. Beyond the grief of feeling misplaced, there’s a depth that extends into the formation of the stars, it breathes, it speaks and it leads the way.
Mels story is about difference and the importance of it, focussing on what we have ourselves, what we bring and how connection with others can be healthy when there’s a mutual value of each other, which starts with a healthy value of ourself.
