We would like to thank our members & supporters who contributed to our collective work over the past year with integrity & strength. We look forward to continuing our advocacy together for young people in NSW in 2022. The lines in this card are part of the artwork for our 2020 Annual Report created by our young artist in residence Sarah R Muir, from her work around young people’s voice.

Dear Friends,

What an epic year, finally the end of 2021 is in sight. This has been a big year in so many ways. 2021 presented us with its own unique challenges with a continuing pandemic but the sector and young people in NSW responded with incredible strength and concern for community wellbeing. With the year winding down you’ll notice this month’s edition of YapRap has been sent a little earlier. December has already been a full month and we have a few things to update you about, as well as some opportunities coming up early in the new year.   Read More

Youth Action’s Profiles highlight what young people can do when they are given opportunities to make an impact in community and the non profit sector. A regular Q&A profiling the great work of our youngest game changers.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Lua Pellegrini and I am a proud Wiradjuri woman who grew up on Darug Country in Western Sydney. Over the past five years I have been a representative for Young Carers NSW and a volunteer at Redfern Jarjum College. I am also currently a member of the Health Literacy Advisory Council and the Chairperson of ACYPs Youth Advisory Council.

Why do you think it’s important for young people to learn to advocate for themselves?

Self-advocacy is imperative for young people as it helps to develop resilience and builds confidence. Not all young people are in the position to self-advocate however and that is why I feel the Ask for Health project is so important as it enables young people to be informed about their rights and responsibilities, so that when the time comes to speak-up young people can feel well informed to do so.

If you know a young person you would like to see featured in our profiles contact Youth Action’s Storytelling & Communications Manager anna@youthaction.org.au.

We want our call outs, consultations and networks to represent the diversity of young people in NSW. We highly encourage young people from First Nations and culturally diverse communities, young people from regional areas, young people with disability, LGBTQIA+ young people and young people doing it tough to apply.
