The University Library plays a key role in supporting research activities across the University and engaging with the sector. The Manager, Library Research Services will lead their team to provide targeted research support services to Curtin staff and higher degree students.
About the role
In this role you will be a key member of the Library’s Strategy Team.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading the Research Services team in the development and management of the library’s research services, including research data management, copyright, metrics and identifiers, publishing, and HDR support programs.
- Maintaining current awareness of local, national, and global trends and developments in the research services areas, to make recommendations for new or enhanced services.
- Ensuring the provision of high-quality research services which are effective and meet the needs of the Curtin research community. You will understand and anticipate researcher requirements to prioritise and allocate resources and services appropriately.
- Developing and implementing advocacy, promotion, and outreach activities to advance open scholarship and eResearch at Curtin, including open data, open licensing, the adoption of identifiers, the responsible use of metrics, and adoption of sustainable and equitable publishing models.
- Seeking out new partnership, grant, and collaborative project opportunities in relation to open scholarship and eResearch.
- Building and maintaining partnerships with Curtin stakeholders, including researchers, faculties and areas, to ensure library programs support the University’s strategic research priorities.
- Advising on scholarly communications issues, including new publishing models to support open access, rights retention, and the role of repositories in the wider research ecosystem.
Essential Criteria:
- Relevant qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or extensive management experience in a relevant field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated experience in the provision of researcher programs in a large academic library or similar organisation.
- An understanding of research data management, research impact metrics, and other research support services for academics and higher degree students.
- Demonstrated ability to guide, coach and manage staff in a complex and dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, apply innovative approaches to problem solving and work flexibly in a rapidly changing environment.
A professional qualification in librarianship is desirable.
