Importance: High

Good Morning

In the lead up to the Queensland Indigenous Youth Leadership Program being held on the 25th June- 1st July 2022, we are seeking expressions of interest in attending some the sessions

We have for the very first time 53 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders young people from across the whole of Queensland attending this year. We are looking for a diverse attendance of many different organisations with different areas of expertise to come and meet our young people.

The six-day residential program provides the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills and increase their awareness and knowledge of Queensland’s democratic processes. It is supported by corporate sponsors Glencore Coal Assets Australia and is delivered by Youth Engagement within the Department of Environment and Science in partnership with Queensland Parliamentary Services.

I invite you to submit your express of interest to attend/participate in the following events which occur during the program at the Pullman King George Square Hotel, Cnr of Ann and Roma Streets, Brisbane

  • The Official Opening ceremony for the program will be held on Monday 27 June 2022, from 8.30 – 10.30am

  • Networking Activity to meet with the participants on Wednesday 29 June 2022 from 1.30 – 2.15pm

  • Community Project Mock Proposal Writing session – to talk with participants on their community projects/ideas and offer advice on Wednesday 29 June 2022 from 2.15 – 3.45pm (afternoon tea will be provided after this session)

** Background of the Networking Activity – The session is held like “Speed Dating” where you’ll go around the room meeting many of the young people and having a 2 minute conversation. The aim of the session is to give young people the opportunity to create new networks they can take back to their communities and seek opportunities they may not be aware of.

If your organisation is interested in attending any or all of the sessions please complete the expression of interest form in the link provided: (please note as this is a google form some government emails will not allow permission to open)

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScwndPEPWXGIT4U2gyA4dhZPTolZDs_bYgK4UFVNzwOM22xOQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

So we are only offering each organisation the opportunity to be involved the submission is a maximum of 2 persons expressions of interest (please note that each organisation can list 2 names on the above form, completing a second form is not required).

Expression of interests close on Thursday 16th June 2022 @ 12 noon!

After submissions of expressions of interest close, we will start officially inviting people from the list. Along with the invite we will provide more specific details of location of our event.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thanks Jess

Hi All,

Tenancy Skills Institute will be holding a free course for any interested participants or young people.

It will be in our DBCYP office on July 28th and 29th it is a free course.

See the spiel below and the attached flyer for more information.

The course is fully funded by the Queensland Government and was developed in response to an identified need within the community. We have been offering the course across Queensland for the past 2 years and many graduate students have reported positive outcomes from completing the course.

The course is supported by local real estate agents in your area and across QLD, the Skillsets for Successful Tenancies course covers four important areas of learning:

Module 1 –  Communication

Module 2 –  Rights and Responsibilities

Module 3: – Cleaning techniques

Module 4: – Budgeting

The benefits of completing the course can be far reaching as students learn:

–  How to strengthen their rental applications, which can increase chances of being approved

– Understand how to maximise Bond refunds at the end of tenancies

– Save time and money by understanding how to get things right in their tenancies the first time around.

I have attached some brochures that has more information about our course.
