The Department
The Department for Child Protection (DCP) plays a key role in the protection of children, young people and their families within South Australia. The department provides support to vulnerable children and young people to be safe, strong and connected.
The Opportunity
The Central Region currently has an exciting opportunity to join their team as a Principal Aboriginal Consultant on an ongoing basis.
The Principal Aboriginal Consultant is accountable to the Regional Director for leading in operational and strategic interventions for Aboriginal children, young people and their families which contributes to the development of Aboriginal culturally sensitive policies, programs and practices.
In this role you will be responsible for providing advice to management on regional Aboriginal needs and providing advice to DCP staff, providers, and other non-government agencies on Aboriginal culturally appropriate practices and systems.
About You
The successful applicant will have demonstrated, comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the political, historical and socio-economic circumstances that have affected Aboriginal people, their culture and communities, as well as current trends and critical and emerging issues.  You will use this knowledge and apply this to understanding in your social work or case management activities to achieve successful outcomes for Aboriginal children and their families.
The successful candidate will also have a clear understanding of the range of issues and systems affecting Aboriginal children and young people requiring care and protection including their families and carers.

Essential Qualifications: A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
As only persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent are eligible to apply, if you have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification you may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker.  You will also be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
Service delivery roles within DCP may be governed by one (or more) of the Emergency Management Directions issued by the Commissioner of Police in November 2021. To be employed in such a role that is considered to be in scope, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 with a TGA approved vaccine and provide proof of vaccination status prior to being considered for the role.
