At Brisbane City Council, the division Lifestyle and Community Services aims to protect and enhance the liveability, vibrancy and accessibility of Brisbane. Within the division, the Compliance and Regulatory Services (CARS) branch ensures Council is building a better Brisbane and contributes to the health, safety and amenity of Brisbane through a range of licensing and regulatory services related to environmental health, land use and built environment, animal management, asset use and the natural environment. We provide best practice regulatory services that contribute positively to the quality and lifestyle of the city. Compliance and Regulatory Services Video
The purpose of this position is to engage a new graduate to learn to act as an authorised officer and exercise delegated powers of legislation. A typical day at Brisbane City Council as an Environmental Health Officer may include food audits, personal appearance audits, entertainment compliance, public health compliance, environmental noise and nuisance compliance, and water contamination investigations. No one day is ever the same in this exciting role!! We are passionate, professional and customer focused in identifying, preventing, and remedying environmental health issues.
To be successful in this role you will have:
· tertiary qualification in environmental health or equivalent that would allow eligibility for appointment as an authorised officer under current legislation
· the ability to interpret, manage and carry out investigations and assessments to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, guidelines and standards
· strong customer service, negotiation and liaison skills
· demonstrate good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
· well-developed organisation and time management skills to meet deadlines
· effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
· the ability to work autonomously in a high-performing multi-disciplinary team
This role involves work in venues, settings, events and activities which, in accordance with the public health directions issued by the Queensland Government, requires a COVID-19 vaccination. Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is therefore a requirement of the role.
NOTE: Shortlisted candidates will need to be available to attend/participate in a few recruitment selection methods. These may include but not limited to online video interviews, psychometric testing, onsite group assessments and face to face or online interviews with the panel.
