Indigenous Justice Officer – AO5

Dear colleagues,

About the Courts Innovation Program (CIP)

CIP, within the Magistrates Courts Service, manages and supports a number of court programs. These programs are primarily designed to respond to the needs of people, especially those with multiple and complex needs, who interact within the justice system.

Through our programs, we link people to health and social services to address the underlying causes of offending and also provide culturally appropriate responses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to help address their over-representation in the criminal justice system.

CIP encourages a culture of high performing teams with a focus on our staff and professional development.

About the role

You will have the opportunity to:

• Liaise with stakeholders to promote and support the operations of programs established to assist

vulnerable people coming into contact with the justice system.

• Assist with capacity building programs for Community Justice Groups and Murri Court to provide

culturally appropriate responses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to help address

their over representation in the criminal justice system.

• Build and maintain effective working networks and information sharing mechanisms with

government and non-government contacts with the aim of addressing Community Justice Group

  needs.

The Indigenous Justice Officer reports to the Team Leader, Indigenous Justice Programs North.
