The University Library, the area in which the Copyright Officer role is based, provides support for both areas, ensuring researchers, academics, and students have the backing they need to achieve their goals.

About the role 

Working within the Library’s Research Services team, you will play a key role within the University, undertaking the responsibilities of the Compliance Officer for the Australian Copyright Act 1968. This includes implementing, and continually improving the university-wide copyright compliance program, as well as advocating on issues related to copyright and open access and educating students and staff on copyright matters.

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) ongoing role.

Essential criteria 

  • A relevant degree with considerable relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education.
  • Demonstrated understanding of copyright and open access and their impacts on learning, teaching, and research activities in the higher education landscape.
  • Proven capacity to read, comprehend and interpret legislation and contractual agreements.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and oral communication skills with the ability to consult and liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and with cross cultural sensitivity.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a cross functional team, including the capacity to supervise and manage other staff.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple and often competing tasks with attention to accuracy and detail within deadlines.
  • Demonstrated critical analysis skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, apply innovative approaches to problem solving and work flexibly in a rapidly changing environment and within budget and resourcing constraints.
